When World No.1 Meets No. 2...
Drama at the Wimbledon Men's Single 2007 Final. For the very first time, playing tennis seemed like a sine curve to me. Except that we might be experiencing resonance this time. Advantages kept swinging to both sides at equal intervals, with the level of excitement building up in an exponential fashion.
7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. It was World No. 1 Roger Federer who got the better of Rafael Nadal in the end and claimed his fifth consecutive Wimbledon Grandslam Championship Trophy.
This is the first time that Mr Genki sticked his butt to the chair and watched a whole tennis cup tie. It was so special. Federer who is as calm as the ocean, usually expressionless, seemed to have taken a class on theatrical skills. It's as though a tsunami, first time ever that Mr Genki seen Federer's emotion getting the better of him. Those arguements with the Umpire, screams of winners and the tears of joy at his championship. His strokes were not as firm. They were not results of theatrical skills, but real. It really meant alot to him.
Nadal, on the other hand, had sent a firm warning to Federer that he'll be able to match Federer, even on the lawn. Nadal played well. In fact so well that Mr Genki thought Federer was going to fall. Thankfully, Mr Genki was mistaken.
What is interesting was that Federer managed 24 aces but had only broken 2 serves from Nadal. On the contrary, Nadal only managed 1 ace but broken 3 serves from Federer. Good grief! 24 aces is just good enough to win a set!
It is that cool and calm in Federer that made him such a charmer (Though it seemed to diminish a little this time). Lady Luck smiled upon him too.
Federer Prevails!
